Sims Marter
Sims with Personality
Yours isn’t just any city! It comes complete with a cast of colorful characters. Police Sims catch bank robbers and ambulances drive sick Sims to the hospital. Homeless Sims hang out in the park and the bus driver Sim takes kids to school every day. Listen to the lobbyists and industry leaders as they present opportunities and ask for pledges from you as Mayor, but look out for the arsonist as he tries to start fires and spread chaos! Each character has a role and each is affected by the choices you make and how you play the game!
Intelligent Sims
Each Sim in SimCity is an agent in the GlassBox Simulation Engine. That means they each go to work, purchase items, consume goods and live in a home (unless they’re homeless). They actually drive along the roads, get stuck in traffic, and play in the parks. Each of the goods you see them produce is an actual unit within the game, and you can see resources diminish as they are used up. This means the city you see is the actual heart of the simulation. The Sims in your town lead real lives and the choices you make affect their future.
Cities Respond to You
The Sims in SimCity aren’t shy about letting you know how you’re doing as mayor. Whether you are meeting their basic needs, building them the best parks and schools, or ignoring them completely, you can see the consequences of your actions reflected in the look of your city. Happy Sims might erect a bronze statue in your honor, while disapproval may trigger a protest in front of city hall. Failing to meet the demands of your citizens can cause abandoned homes and graffiti-riddled slums, but improved conditions will bring a string of moving vans as Sims flock back to your town!
Constructible Worlds
City Planning
Much of the success of your city will depend on good urban planning. Factories won’t open on time if Sims can’t get to work because of heavy traffic. If there aren’t enough fire stations to go around, a meaningless spark may burn your city to the ground. Without a strong police force your city could be full of abandoned slums and unhappy Sims. You could also operate too many public services and run out of money! New data layers project the status of water, electricity, pollution, health and more in your city, letting you instantly where improvements are needed. No charts or graphs necessary!
Ploppables
Ploppables are incredibly detailed 3D buildings you can upgrade with modules to extend the functionally of your city. Do your Sims need higher education for their youth? Pick the university Ploppable and drop it into your city. Now your Sims will start flocking to their new school. Upgrade your fire station by adding an extra garage for more fire trucks, or send trucks to neighboring cities by dropping in a fire headquarters. Complete pledges to unlock additional modules for police stations, college dorms, hospitals, manufacturing plants and many more. The more successful your city, the more ploppables you can unlock.
Create a Customized City
Through SimCity’s new model-like aesthetic and advanced GlassBox simulation engine, building a small town or thriving city is more tactile and intuitive than ever before. Just click and drag to draw new roads including fan requested curvy roads. Drag again to designate industrial, commercial or residential zones and watch your Sims construct buildings then move in. Drop in a water tower or power station and see the lights come on in your Sims’ homes and businesses. With a click of the mouse you can shape and mold the physical world in which your Sims live, work, and play.
Multiplayer
Build Great Works
Team up with friends or go solo to build great works in your region. Great works are huge undertakings that require Sim workers, lots of materials, and funding. You can plan a fusion reactor, build an international airport, or send a shuttle into space. Working together with other cities in your region will help ease the burden on your city and the finished projects benefit everyone! Building a solar farm will provide large quantities of clean energy to your region. Team up with your friends to build Great Works and create a super region!
Cities Interact
Cities in the real world don’t live in isolation. Choose to be a good neighbor and send fire and police resources to other cities in need, or specialize in industries that create pollution and then watch as the Sims in your region become sick. Sick Sims can’t work, however, and that can affect the goods you import from a friend’s city. Your decisions will also have an impact on the world as a whole by driving demand and adding to worldwide pollution. How will you stack up as a mayor and a neighbor?
Cities and regions
As mayor you control all of the major decisions in your city, but why stop there? Now you will play on a much larger scale, as your city is part of a much larger region. You can control one or multiple cities in an open region on the web, in a private region shared with your friends’ cities, or in your own personal region. Each city within a given region will affect the others around it, so your decisions have an impact not only on your own city, but on your friends’ as well.
City Specialization
Region Play
City specialization transforms your city into a major player in the industry you choose. Become a power baron or create a technological think tank! The more you invest in a specific industry, the more influence you have over your region and the SimCity world. As mayor of a producing metropolis you can choose to provide goods to neighboring cities, trade on the global market, or keep it all for yourself. Your decisions also affect the global price of resources. Check the leaderboards to see your status as an industrialist, and make a name for your city in your region and the world!
Influence Your City
Choosing a specialization for your city will influence its look, feel and personality. As you invest your town’s resources in a specific industry, the look of the surrounding residential, commercial, and industrial areas will adapt and change to fit your new enterprise. Build a coal mine and watch as refineries and factories pop up in the industrial district. Build a casino, and watch as the surrounding houses become high-end condos, and the commercial businesses become brightly lit tourist hangouts and bars. Every choice you make will play out in the districts and neighborhoods of your city!
City Specialization
Now you can create a metropolis that adapts to the SimCity environment and your gaming style! Every choice you make creates new benefits and challenges. Choose to build a college town and attract the smartest Sims in your region, or create an industrial blue-collar city. Educated Sims will develop advanced technologies that benefit your city however large universities and research are expensive to maintain. Will you raise the funds by increasing taxes or building a casino? Casinos will bring tourism and raise Simoleons, but also bring crime and poverty. Make the choices that will shape your city’s destiny. What will your city’s specialization be?
